– Freidrich Nietzsche

Turn Your Worry Into Wonder

Our journey through life can be difficult, depressing, anxiety inducing and sometimes painful. Those negative aspects of life are unavoidable; however, we can learn to cope with them, manage our emotions and learn to reframe our situations. For instance, when thinking of pain, instead of seeing it as only negative, remember that the feeling of joy is only heightened by having experienced the pain in the first place. I utilize a humanistic person-centered approach that allows the individual to develop a sense of empowerment. Empowerment won’t help you “fix” anything in your life and I do not have a magic wand to make all of your troubles disappear, but what allowing me to help you become empowered will do is help you navigate your journey and assist you in finding your path. At the end of the day, the journey is yours alone and it is a uniquely beautiful one. Whatever it is you’re feeling, be it anxious, depressed, stressed, misunderstood, unheard, overwhelmed, or just stuck and feeling as if there’s no way out – we can work together to find realistic alternatives to improve your feeling, thinking, and behaving as you move towards a healthier and more authentic way of living.

I have extensive experience working with young adults, teens, and college-aged populations with a specialty in working with young athletes. I have both coached and counseled on performance anxiety and sports identity from high school, college, and professional levels. I also specialize in trauma therapy and work on both individual healing and the family systems approach as well as narcissistic abuse recovery. I see the importance of understanding how our experiences have shaped us and affected us. I counsel diverse populations and am LGBTQI affirming. I provide therapy to those from all walks of life.

Spotlight

Hello! My name is Morgan Farrah and I just completed my MBA at Penn State where I also was a Catcher on the Softball Team. Before Penn State I played softball at Colgate University for 4 years and graduated with my bachelor’s in computer science. Throughout my 5 years of college athletics, I realized it is hard to balance schoolwork, social life, sport, and mental health all at once. Through working with Krystal, I was able to get out of my comfort zone and host award ceremonies, I became the Athletic Director Leadership award winner back-to-back years at Colgate, and capped my career with the B1G Sportsmanship Award for Penn State. With this being said, working with Krystal was not only crucial for my success at Colgate, but allowed me to chase my dream of playing at Penn State.

The Benefits Of A Virtual Provider

Virtual counseling sessions are counseling sessions that take place entirely online through video conferencing software such as Zoom or Skype. Instead of meeting face-to-face in an office, the counselor and client connect through their computer or mobile device from the comfort of their home or office. Despite not being in the same physical space, virtual counseling sessions provide an effective way for individuals to access mental health services and receive support.

In a nut shell, in today’s world, convenience is everything.  Now you can meet anytime anywhere. No driving, no traffic, no getting a sitter. Just finding a safe, secure, quiet place close to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is counseling?

Counseling is a process in which an individual seeks guidance and support from a trained professional to overcome mental health concerns, improve well-being, and develop coping skills. It is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client to uncover underlying issues, explore thought patterns, emotions, and behaviors. The main goal of counseling is to help individuals gain insight, identify obstacles, and develop strategies to cope with life’s challenges. Common approaches include cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoanalysis, and humanistic therapy. Counseling can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds, from children to the elderly, and can address a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, addiction, relationship problems, and stress. Confidentiality is an essential aspect of counseling, allowing clients to feel safe and free from judgment when discussing personal and sensitive information.

What is it like to be in counseling?

Counseling can be a unique and beneficial experience for everyone. It usually involves attending sessions with a licensed professional, discussing personal issues, and working collaboratively to identify and achieve goals. Some people may feel nervous or vulnerable at first, but therapists are trained to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings. Through counseling, individuals can gain insight into their behavior patterns, learn coping strategies, and work towards personal growth. It can also be a space to process trauma, improve relationships, and manage mental health symptoms. The length and frequency of counseling sessions can vary, depending on the individual’s needs and goals. Overall, counseling can provide a supportive and constructive environment for individuals to work towards improving their overall well-being.

Why should I see a therapist/counselor?

Seeing a therapist or counselor can be beneficial for a variety of reasons. They can provide a safe and confidential space for you to discuss your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Therapists can also offer support and guidance for coping with challenging life situations, such as grief, stress, or relationship issues. Additionally, therapy can help individuals improve their communication skills, set and achieve goals, and enhance their overall mental health and well-being. Seeing a therapist can also be beneficial for those who are struggling with mental health conditions like anxiety or depression, as they can offer evidence-based treatments and strategies to manage symptoms. Ultimately, therapy can help individuals develop greater self-awareness, build resilience, and lead a more fulfilling life.

How does counseling work?

Counseling is a process where a trained therapist or counselor provides support and guidance to an individual or group in a confidential and safe environment. The goal of counseling is to help clients work through psychological, emotional, and behavioral challenges that may be impacting their quality of life and relationships.

Counseling involves an initial assessment to determine the client’s concerns and needs, followed by the development of a treatment plan that is personalized to the client’s specific needs and goals. Throughout the counseling process, the therapist will work with the client to identify negative thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, and help them develop new coping strategies and ways of thinking to foster positive change.

Counseling can take many forms, including individual, couple, family, or group therapy, and can be short-term or long-term depending on the client’s needs. The success of counseling depends on the client’s willingness to engage in the process and work collaboratively with the therapist towards achieving their goals.

How often should I come to counseling?

The frequency of counseling sessions depends on the individual’s unique needs and goals. It is recommended to meet with a therapist at least once a week in the beginning stages of therapy, especially if the issues being addressed are severe or overwhelming. As progress is made, the frequency of sessions can be reduced to once every two weeks or once a month, depending on the client’s needs. Some clients may choose to continue with weekly sessions on an ongoing basis as a form of preventative care or for ongoing support. Ultimately, the decision of how often to attend counseling should be made in collaboration with one’s therapist and based on individual needs and goals.
